Copyright ownership and the client’s right to use project documents are governed by the applicable project agreement and intellectual property law.
Unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing, after payment of all amounts due, a client receives a limited license to use final project documents for the specific property and project for which those documents were prepared.
The client may ordinarily provide necessary copies to contractors, subcontractors, engineers, consultants, building departments, lenders, homeowners associations, and other parties reasonably involved with that specific project.
This project license does not constitute a transfer of copyright ownership.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, plans created for a particular client and property may not be reused to construct another project at another property.

Distributed as stock plans

Additional uses require prior written authorization from Colorado Building Plans or the applicable copyright owner.
Clients, contractors, engineers, or other professionals may occasionally need to modify project documents.
Permission to use project documents does not necessarily grant permission to create unrelated derivative works or commercially exploit modified versions.
Colorado Building Plans assumes no responsibility for unauthorized modifications made to its plans, drawings, designs, or documents by other parties.
A person modifying project documents is responsible for the modifications and their consequences.
Preliminary concepts, sketches, alternative layouts, draft plans, renderings, and design options presented during a project may remain protected intellectual property even when the client selects a different design.

Any transfer or licensing of editable files must be expressly agreed upon in writing.
3D renderings, visualizations, models, and conceptual images created by or for Colorado Building Plans may be protected by copyright.
Clients may use project-specific renderings for reasonable personal purposes associated with their project unless their project agreement states otherwise.
